An Australian wine producer has been awarded the most interesting and memorable wine in the world, with a new award handed out to a company which offers a “dry” version of red wine.
The new award, known as the Wine of the Year award, was announced on Thursday by Australian Wine Institute CEO Mark Robinson.
The Wine of The Year is given annually to a “new, innovative” or “outstanding” product or service by an Australian wine company, Robinson said in a statement.
“It is an honour to be recognised with this award for our innovative dry wine, which was developed by a company that we are proud to be associated with, our winemaker, and our partners,” Robinson said.
The Wine Of The Year awards are given to the most significant and enduring wines, according to the Wine Institute.
They are given for a specific category, such as the “most interesting, significant or innovative wine”.
Robinson said that while dry wine is “a fairly recent development” in Australia, “there’s still an enormous amount of great dry wine out there”.
“We want to make sure that it has a place in the wine culture,” he said.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to get their hands on wine, so it’s really exciting to be able to give it to them.”
“We’re looking forward to having people recognise this new wine in 2017 and celebrating it for the next 100 years.”
The Australian Wine Awards is a new initiative by the Wine Industry Council, which promotes Australian wine producers and consumers.
The organisation was founded in 2006 and is led by the former chairman of the Australian Wine Council, Ian Griffiths.
“The Wine Institute has an enormous responsibility to promote and protect Australian wine, to provide the best wine possible for our customers, and to continue to innovate,” Robinson told news.com.au.
“I’m delighted to be a part of this award, which will go to an organisation that’s been developing this kind of dry wine for over 20 years.”
